England captain Harry Brook has admitted the past few weeks have been “pretty horrendous” following controversy over a nightclub incident in Wellington, but says he is now focused on moving on.
The 26-year-old was fined by the England and Wales Cricket Board and given a final warning after an altercation with a bouncer before a match against New Zealand. Brook later admitted he had not been fully honest with the media about other players being present, and the matter remains under investigation by the cricket regulator.
Despite the off-field issues, Brook says the support of his teammates has helped him cope. He added that the episode has taught him how much responsibility comes with being England captain, both on and off the field.
England begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Nepal in Mumbai, arriving in strong form after winning 10 of their last 11 T20 matches. Brook also heads into the tournament in good touch after scoring 136 not out in Sri Lanka.
