Ten-man Brentford pulled off a brilliant win at Aston Villa, damaging the hosts’ Premier League title hopes.
Brentford’s Dango Ouattara scored a stunning goal just after Kevin Schade was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Matty Cash. Villa’s Tammy Abraham thought he had equalised early in the second half, but the goal was ruled out by VAR.
Brentford defended resolutely in the second half to hold on for a deserved victory. The win moves Brentford up to seventh in the table, four points off the top five, while Villa remain third, seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
Brentford manager Keith Andrews praised his team’s effort, calling it “a defensive masterclass” and expressing immense pride in the players’ performance. He also accepted Schade’s red card, saying mistakes happen and the squad handled it well.
Villa manager Unai Emery admitted his side lost a great chance to win and called for balance and focus as the team looks ahead to the end of the transfer window.
