Kylian Mbappe scored a stoppage-time penalty to give Real Madrid a dramatic 3-2 win over nine-man Rayo Vallecano, after Jude Bellingham was forced off with an early injury.
Bellingham went down clutching his left hamstring after 10 minutes, and Vinicius Jr quickly gave Real the lead with a curling strike. Rayo Vallecano fought back, and Jorge de Frutos equalised just after half-time.
Real had chances to retake the lead, with Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga hitting the woodwork, while Vallecano were reduced to nine men late in the game after Pathe Cisse and Pep Chavarria were sent off.
In the 100th minute, Nobel Mendy was fouled in the box, giving Mbappe the chance to score his 22nd La Liga goal and secure Real’s sixth straight league win. The victory puts Real Madrid just one point behind Barcelona in the title race, while Vallecano remain just above the relegation zone.
