Wayne Rooney says it would be a “no-brainer” to join Manchester United as a coach if Michael Carrick becomes caretaker manager.
Rooney, a former United and England team-mate of Carrick, said on his podcast that Carrick would be a “great fit” for the role and that he would gladly assist if asked.
The former England striker added that it’s important to have people who know the club, understand what it takes to be a Manchester United player, and can help restore the club’s identity and spirit.
Carrick, 44, previously had a three-game stint as United’s temporary boss in 2021 and is the favourite to take over after Ruben Amorim’s sacking, with Darren Fletcher currently in temporary charge.
