Mohamed Salah will lead Egypt into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) semi-final against Senegal under huge pressure, knowing this could be his best chance to finally win the trophy.
Egypt are seven-time Afcon champions, but they have not won the title since 2010. Salah, now 33, has come close before, losing the finals in 2017 and 2021, and missing out again in 2019 and 2023. After the quarter-final win over Ivory Coast, Salah admitted Afcon is the one major honour he still wants.
The match also renews his rivalry with former Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane, who has beaten Salah in two of their last three international meetings. With Afcon set to move to every four years from 2028, this tournament could be Salah’s final chance to lift the title and cement his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest players.
