Rosenior says Chelsea’s Young Players could be the Next Class of 92

Liam Rosenior wants to guide Chelsea’s young squad like Sir Alex Ferguson did with Manchester United’s famous Class of ’92. He believes Chelsea’s talented youngsters have the potential to grow into trophy winners.

Rosenior, 41, took over as Chelsea head coach after Enzo Maresca left on New Year’s Day. Maresca had struggled with pressure over team selections and managing injuries in the Premier League’s youngest squad, which has averaged just over 24 years in starting line-ups this season.

Rosenior is excited to shape the futures of Chelsea’s young players, comparing the opportunity to Ferguson’s era at Old Trafford. “Sir Alex was brave enough to put six or seven players aged 19-21 into a title-winning team. They grew and won trophy after trophy. There’s potential to do that here,” he said.

He highlighted Chelsea talents like Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, and Reece James as world-class but still very young players. “The ultimate aim is to create that again,” Rosenior added.

Chelsea hired Rosenior after 18 months at Strasbourg, a club in the same Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership group. Strasbourg played with the youngest squad in Europe’s top five leagues last season and finished seventh, qualifying for European competition for the first time in eight years.

“If you watched my Strasbourg team, everyone enjoyed them because they played with intensity,” Rosenior said. “Young players are fit, less injury-prone, and exciting to watch. I’ll train them, manage their health, and aim for success now while building their careers. If I didn’t think it was possible to win with this group, I wouldn’t have come.”
