Wayne Rooney believes Liam Rosenior deserves the chance to become Chelsea manager, saying he is one of the best coaches he has ever worked with. The former England striker spoke warmly about their time together at Derby County, where Rosenior was his assistant.
Rosenior, who is currently in charge of French side Strasbourg, is the leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. The 41-year-old has already travelled to London for talks, with negotiations said to be at an advanced stage. Chelsea and Strasbourg share the same owners.
After working with Rooney at Derby, Rosenior went on to manage Hull City before moving to Strasbourg in 2024. Rooney praised his coaching skills, attention to detail and day-to-day work, saying he learned a lot from him.
Rooney said Rosenior has taken risks in his career and hopes they pay off, insisting he has the quality to succeed at a club like Chelsea.
