Ravens fire Head coach Harbaugh after 18 years

The Baltimore Ravens have sacked head coach John Harbaugh after 18 years in charge, following the team’s failure to reach the NFL play-offs. The 63-year-old leaves as the longest-serving coach in Ravens history and after leading the team to Super Bowl glory in 2013.

Baltimore missed out on the play-offs after a late loss to rivals Pittsburgh Steelers, finishing the season with an 8-9 record. Despite having star quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Ravens reached the AFC Championship game only once since their last Super Bowl win.

Harbaugh said his departure was disappointing but thanked the club for the opportunity, while owner Steve Bisciotti described the decision as extremely difficult given Harbaugh’s long service and character.
