Manchester United have held early talks with former players Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about becoming caretaker manager until the end of the season. The discussions are only at an initial stage, with no decision yet on who could replace Ruben Amorim on a temporary basis.
Amorim was sacked on Monday after a difficult spell in charge, and Fletcher has been named interim manager for now. United plan to appoint a permanent manager in the summer.
Director of football Jason Wilcox has spoken to Fletcher, Solskjaer and Carrick, while another former United striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, is also believed to be in contention. Van Nistelrooy previously had a successful short spell as caretaker in 2024.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Marseille coach Roberto de Zerbi are among the early names being linked with the full-time Manchester United job.
