Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Casemiro will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
The 33-year-old joined United from Real Madrid for £70m in 2022 and has gone on to make 146 appearances for the club. He played a key role in his debut season, scoring the opening goal in the 2023 Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle as United finished third in the Premier League.
However, Casemiro’s future has been under scrutiny in recent months. Last year, new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe referenced some players as being “not good enough” and “overpaid” in comments to BBC Sport, with the Brazilian midfielder widely understood to be among those mentioned.
Despite the announcement, Casemiro insisted his focus remains firmly on the remainder of the campaign.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” he said. “It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.
“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
Casemiro is set to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season after three years with the club.
