Tottenham’s Bergvall Facing up to Three Months on the Sidelines

Tottenham Hotspur are awaiting a final diagnosis on Lucas Bergvall’s ankle injury amid concerns the midfielder could be sidelined for up to three months.


The 19-year-old Sweden international picked up the injury during Spurs’ 2-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night. Bergvall attempted to play on but was eventually substituted in the second half.


Spurs’ medical team are continuing to assess the issue and the club has yet to confirm the severity of the injury. While an absence of around three months is considered the worst-case scenario following initial tests, Bergvall is expected to miss a significant period regardless  a major setback for head coach Thomas Frank.


Bergvall joined Tottenham in February 2024 and has featured 26 times in all competitions this season, becoming an increasingly important part of the squad.


Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League after a disappointing first half of the campaign, with Frank already dealing with a lengthy injury list. James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Ben Davies are all sidelined long term.


Richarlison is expected to return from a thigh injury in around six weeks, while Joao Palhinha is also unavailable with a knock.
