Manchester City have agreed a £20m deal to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this month. The 25-year-old England centre-back became a top target for City after injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.
Guehi, whose contract at Palace runs out this summer, was close to joining Liverpool last year and has been linked with several top European clubs. Talks with City have accelerated, and he is expected to sign a long-term contract this month. Personal terms are reportedly not an issue.
The deal comes as Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season. While Glasner wanted Guehi to stay for the rest of the campaign, Palace finalized the agreement with City, meaning Guehi will not play in Saturday’s Premier League match against Sunderland.
Guehi has been a key player for Palace, captaining them to their first major trophy in the FA Cup last May and a Community Shield win over Liverpool. He joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and has become a regular for England, featuring in their run to the Euro 2024 final.
City have already strengthened in this window by signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5m. With Guehi’s arrival, Pep Guardiola will bolster a defence hit by injuries ahead of their derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
