British heavyweight Anthony Joshua has returned to the gym after surviving a car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends and team members. Joshua, 36, suffered only minor injuries in the accident on 29 December, which also claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif 'Latz' Ayodele when their vehicle hit a stationary truck near Lagos.
Nineteen days after the crash, Joshua shared a video on Snapchat of himself hitting pads and training, captioned “mental strength therapy.” He had fought Jake Paul in Miami on 19 December, just 10 days before the tragedy. Joshua also paid tribute to Ghami and Ayodele on Instagram, calling them “great men” and acknowledging the impact of their loss.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said Joshua will return to boxing “when the time is right,” emphasizing that he needs to recover physically, mentally, and emotionally before deciding on his future. Hearn added that the focus now is on Joshua’s well-being rather than his career plans.
