Pep Guardiola has apologised to referee Farai Hallam if he felt offended, but insisted he was right to speak out to defend Manchester City and his players.
The City boss was unhappy after Hallam, on his Premier League debut, refused to award a penalty for a possible handball by Yerson Mosquera, even after being sent to the VAR monitor. Guardiola said the decision was surprising but admitted refereeing is difficult, especially on debut.
Guardiola said he respects referees but feels he must speak up when decisions go against his team, adding that he expects referees’ chief Howard Webb to explain the call.
