Great Britain will play Australia away in the qualifying round of this year’s Billie Jean King Cup, with the tie set for 10–11 April. The winners will earn a place in the Finals later this year.
Britain, who reached the semi-finals last season before losing to the USA, are seeded third in the draw. Each qualifier will include singles matches on the first day, followed by doubles and reverse singles on day two.
The seven teams that win their ties will join hosts China at the Finals in Shenzhen in September. GB captain Anne Keothavong could face a challenge getting top British players to travel to Australia, as the women’s tour will be based in Europe at the time.
