Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre finished joint fourth at the Sony Open in Hawaii after shooting a brilliant final-round 63, but admitted his own behaviour earlier in the tournament stopped him from challenging for the title.
The 29-year-old said his frustration got the better of him after he snapped his putter following a missed three-foot putt on Friday, a moment he believes cost him a crucial shot. Despite finishing strongly and recording the best score of the final day, MacIntyre ended the tournament four shots behind winner Chris Gotterup.
MacIntyre said the experience was a big lesson, stressing that having the right attitude for all four rounds is vital if he wants to win again on the PGA Tour. His strong finish moved him up to sixth in the world rankings, underlining his good form despite the disappointment.
