Glasner says he feels Completely abandoned at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has said he feels his team has been “abandoned completely” by the club’s owners and leadership.

The 51-year-old confirmed on Friday that he will leave Palace at the end of the season when his contract expires. At the time, he said his decision was not linked to transfers, even though news broke the same day that captain Marc Guehi was set to join Manchester City.

But after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, Glasner openly criticised the club for allowing Guehi to leave and for failing to properly support him with replacements.

“I feel we are being abandoned completely,” Glasner said on BBC Match of the Day. “I can’t blame the players. They are giving everything, but this situation has been going on for weeks and months.”

He explained that Palace are left with just 12 or 13 available players and feel no backing from above. Glasner said selling the club captain just one day before a Premier League match was especially hard to understand.

“We finally had our first full week of training since September, then we sell our captain the day before a game,” he said. “I don’t understand it.”

Glasner added that he had stayed quiet for a long time but felt he had to speak out to defend his players, saying the lack of support has made an already difficult season even tougher.
