Signe Gaupset impressed on her Women's Super League debut as Tottenham defeated Leicester City, boosting their push for a Champions League spot. The game was settled by an own goal from former Spurs defender Ashleigh Neville, who recently joined Leicester.
Leicester tried to play on the counter and tested Tottenham goalkeeper Lize Kop, but Spurs controlled much of the match, with Gaupset orchestrating attacks alongside Olivia Holdt and Bethany England. The 20-year-old Norwegian, signed from Brann, is seen as one of the world’s top young talents.
Leicester looked stronger after Gaupset was substituted, but Kop and some fine finishing kept Spurs ahead. Tottenham extended their unbeaten home run in the WSL to seven games, while Leicester’s struggles away from home continue, with 22 matches without a win.
