Arsenal have started working with throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark as they look to make the most of set-piece opportunities. While the Gunners lead the Premier League with 14 goals from set-pieces this season, they haven’t scored from a throw-in yet.
Gronnemark, who previously worked with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and also advised Brentford, will help Arsenal improve in this area on a part-time basis. Since last season, no team has scored more from throw-ins than Brentford, while Arsenal remain one of five teams yet to net from them.
Declan Rice is Arsenal’s main long-throw taker this season, as the club tries to use throw-ins to create scoring chances. Gronnemark believes throw-ins are often underestimated but can give any team an edge—whether to survive or to dominate at the top. During his time at Liverpool, he helped the team go from 18th to 1st in possession from throw-ins.
