Former England captain Jamie George will retire at the end of 2027 after signing a one-year contract extension with Saracens. He will finish the 2026-27 season before moving into a career in the business world.

The 35-year-old hooker has earned 105 caps for England, captained the team in 2024, and served as vice-captain to Maro Itoje. He has also been selected for the British and Irish Lions on three tours and played over 300 games for Saracens, the only club he has represented.

George said he wanted to announce his retirement early so he could enjoy every moment of his final season. He made his England debut in 2015, winning three Six Nations titles, including a 2016 Grand Slam, and was part of squads that reached the 2019 World Cup final and 2023 semi-final.

At club level, George joined Saracens’ academy at 14, debuted in 2009, and has won six Premiership titles and three European Champions Cups. He stayed loyal to Saracens even when they were relegated in 2020 due to salary cap breaches and marked his 300th appearance in January 2025.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall praised George as a “club legend” and highlighted his loyalty, talent, and contribution to the club’s success. George described his career as an “absolute honour” and said he looked forward to creating more special memories in his final season.
