Everton’s search for their first point at Goodison Park this season went on as Brighton beat them to hand the Toffees a sixth straight home defeat in the Women’s Super League (WSL).

The winning goal came just before half-time when Kiko Seike blocked a clearance from Martina Fernandez and set up Jelena Cankovic, who scored her first league goal of the season.

Everton pushed for an equaliser late on, with Melissa Lawley and Maz Pacheco going close, but Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made important saves to keep her side ahead.

Brighton were the stronger team overall and nearly scored again after the break, but Everton keeper Courtney Brosnanprevented further damage.

The win moves Brighton up to sixth in the WSL table and ends their wait for a league victory since December. Everton remain 10th, having lost nine of their 13 league games, with all their points coming away from home, though they stay four points above bottom club Liverpool.
