Barcelona moved seven points clear at the top of La Liga after Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski scored late to beat Espanyol. The game looked like it might end in a draw until Fermin Lopez, one of the substitutes, set up both goals in the final minutes. Olmo curled a beautiful shot into the top corner, and Lewandowski finished a clever pass from Lopez in the 90th minute.
Barcelona have been especially strong at the end of games, scoring 12 goals in the last 15 minutes this season – more than any other team in La Liga.
Espanyol started the game well, with Tyrhys Dolan’s early shot blocked, and their former goalkeeper Joan Garcia made several key saves against his old team. Even his replacement, Marko Dmitrovic, denied Eric Garcia in the 72nd minute, making a draw seem likely until Barcelona’s late push sealed the win.
Real Madrid, currently in second place, could cut the gap to four points if they beat Real Betis on Sunday. Espanyol, who haven’t beaten Barcelona in the league since 2009, stay in fifth place.
