A cramping Carlos Alcaraz showed huge fight to beat Alexander Zverev in a dramatic five-set match and reach his first Australian Open final.
Alcaraz won the first two sets and looked in control before suddenly struggling with cramp in the third. He needed a medical timeout and appeared close to pulling out as Zverev fought back to force a deciding fifth set.
Zverev even served for the match at 5-4 in the final set, but Alcaraz refused to give in. Driven on by the crowd, the world number one broke back, turned the momentum around and sealed an incredible comeback after more than five hours on court.
Alcaraz collapsed to the ground in disbelief after Zverev missed a final shot, keeping alive the Spaniard’s dream of making history. If he wins the final, the 22-year-old would become the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.
