West Ham were twice pegged back by Brighton as the struggling Hammers failed to win for an eighth straight Premier League game, drawing 2-2 in a chaotic match that saw three penalties in the first half.
Jarrod Bowen gave West Ham an early lead in the 10th minute, finishing a Lucas Paqueta through ball. Brighton’s Danny Welbeck equalised from the penalty spot after Yankuba Minteh was fouled, but then hit the crossbar from a second spot-kick following a foul on Lewis Dunk.
Just before half-time, VAR awarded West Ham a penalty after Dunk blocked Callum Wilson’s shot with his arm. Paqueta converted in stoppage time, making him only the second player in Premier League history to both score and concede a penalty in the same half.
Brighton grabbed a second equaliser in the second half through Joel Veltman after a corner, with both sides creating further chances but unable to find a winner.
