Salah’s late goal helps Egypt come from behind to defeat Zimbabwe

Mohamed Salah scored a dramatic injury-time winner as Egypt came from behind to beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in their opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Zimbabwe took an early lead when Prince Dube scored in the first half, surprising Egypt. Poor finishing and strong goalkeeping from Zimbabwe’s 40-year-old Washington Arubi kept the score close. Egypt equalised in the 64th minute through Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush.

In added time, Salah capitalised on a loose ball in the penalty area to score the winning goal and secure all three points for Egypt, the seven-time AFCON champions.

Egypt will next face South Africa in Group B on Friday in Agadir, while Zimbabwe travel to Marrakesh to play Angola.
