Liverpool Forward Isak undergoes surgery after breaking his Leg

Liverpool have confirmed that Alexander Isak has broken his left leg and has had surgery. While the club has not given an exact return date, the Sweden striker is expected to be out for several months.

Liverpool said the 26-year-old successfully underwent surgery on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture. Isak had come on as a substitute and scored against Tottenham, but was injured moments later after a challenge from Micky van de Ven. He was clearly in pain and had to be helped off the pitch by medical staff.

The striker, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle for a Premier League record £125m, has scored three goals in 16 appearances since arriving in September. This injury adds to a difficult period for Isak, who has struggled with both form and fitness.

Earlier in the summer, Isak missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia with what was described as a minor thigh injury, amid speculation he wanted a move. He later trained alone at Real Sociedad before completing his transfer to Liverpool on deadline day.

Isak made his Liverpool debut in a Champions League win over Atletico Madrid in September and scored his first goal for the club against Southampton. His first league goal came at West Ham on 30 November, followed by his strike against Tottenham.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is expected to speak about the injury at his press conference on Tuesday morning (09:00 GMT).
