Mohamed Salah made a strong return to the Liverpool team by setting up a goal as the Reds beat Brighton, with Hugo Ekitike scoring twice.
Liverpool won the match to move up to sixth place and extend their unbeaten run to five games. Salah, who had been left out of the previous game after a public disagreement, started on the bench but came on early after Joe Gomez was injured.
Liverpool took the lead almost immediately when Ekitike scored after less than a minute. Brighton had chances to equalise but failed to score, and they were punished later when Salah’s corner helped Ekitike head in his second goal.
Salah was lively after coming on, creating chances and helping the attack, although he missed a late opportunity to score. After the match, he applauded the fans at Anfield before preparing to leave for international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite ongoing uncertainty about his future, Liverpool ended a difficult week with two wins and clean sheets, while Brighton dropped to ninth in the table.
