Cristiano Ronaldo says he will not retire from football until he scores 1,000 career goals. The 40-year-old Portugal captain is currently on 956 goals after scoring twice for Al-Nassr in a 3-0 win over Al Akhdoud.

Ronaldo, who joined the Saudi Arabian club in 2022, recently signed a new two-year contract that could see him play beyond his 42nd birthday. Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, he said he is still highly motivated and enjoys playing wherever he is, whether in Europe or the Middle East.

He admitted continuing is difficult at his age but said his passion remains strong. Ronaldo added that his main targets are winning trophies and reaching the 1,000-goal mark, which he believes he can achieve if he avoids injuries.

Although he previously told Piers Morgan he plans to retire “soon”, Ronaldo has been in fine form this season, scoring 13 goals in 14 games as Al-Nassr sit top of the Saudi Pro League. He remains football’s all-time leading scorer for Portugal and Real Madrid and is the only player to score over 100 goals for four different clubs.

Ronaldo has also confirmed the 2026 World Cup will be his final international tournament. He famously captained Portugal to their first major title at Euro 2016.
