Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says the club will be “actively looking” at new signings in the January transfer window as injuries continue to affect the squad.
The Gunners spent around £250m in the summer and signed eight players to help them cope with a busy schedule and challenge for trophies. However, injuries once again disrupted their plans, just as they did last season when Arsenal finished second in the Premier League and exited the Champions League at the semi-final stage.
This season, Arsenal have already been without several key attacking players, including Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke. More recently, defensive injuries have caused problems, forcing Arteta to use Declan Rice at right-back against Brighton after injuries to Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori.
Although Gabriel has returned, there is still uncertainty over when Timber, Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera will be fit again. Arteta said the club must stay prepared and assess whether January moves are possible if the situation worsens.
