Real Madrid picked up a much-needed win away at Alaves, easing the pressure on manager Xabi Alonso after a difficult run of results.
After losing to Celta Vigo and Manchester City, another defeat could have put Alonso’s job in serious danger. Instead, Real dug deep to earn a hard-fought victory and move within four points of La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring with a brilliant finish, scoring his 17th league goal of the season, before Alaves briefly levelled the match. Real responded well, with Rodrygo scoring the winner after good work from Vinicius Jr.
The result gives Alonso some breathing space and boosts confidence ahead of Real’s next league game against Sevilla.
