Newcastle United survived a scare to beat struggling Burnley and secure a rare away win to end 2025.
Joelinton opened the scoring after just 65 seconds, heading in a deflected cross from Anthony Gordon. Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle’s lead from close range after a goalmouth scramble. Burnley fought back, with Josh Laurent volleying in a goal to make it 2-1.
Despite Newcastle creating chances to restore their two-goal lead, Burnley pressed hard, hitting the post and forcing saves from goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes sealed the 3-1 victory late on after a defensive mix-up, giving Newcastle only their second away league win since mid-April and moving them up to 10th. Burnley remain 19th, six points from safety.
