Thomas Müller says he’s ready to ruin Inter Miami’s big MLS Cup plans — and he’s having fun with the “villain” label people are giving him.
Müller and the Vancouver Whitecaps face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in Saturday’s MLS Cup final. Even though Messi, Busquets, Suárez and Alba are on the other side, Müller didn’t brag about beating them 8–2 with Bayern in 2020 or joking about beating Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final. Instead, he kept things light and smiled through most questions.
Müller joked about Vancouver’s chances, asking reporters if they were “10% or 20%” — but said he’s happy as long as there’s a chance at all.
The 36-year-old German star knows finals well, having played in many with Bayern Munich and Germany. But he said none of his past success matters now — only Saturday’s match does.
Since joining Vancouver in August, Müller has been a huge boost, scoring goals and helping the team reach multiple finals despite injuries and tough games.
Vancouver now hopes to become only the second Canadian team ever to win the MLS Cup. Müller is dealing with a calf issue but insisted he’ll play no matter what.
He joked that this final is “the most important in his life” because it’s the only one he hasn’t played yet — showing he’s keeping things fun but focused.
Now he’ll try to spoil Messi’s big finale and keep smiling while doing it.
