Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has highlighted the importance of Wesley Fofana, Moisés Caicedo, and Reece James, but says he cannot play them in every match. Speaking after Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Leeds United on Wednesday at Elland Road, Maresca explained that the trio cannot feature every two or three days due to their fitness situations.
He admitted that rotating the squad sometimes lowers the team’s level, but insisted it’s necessary to avoid long-term injuries.
“Moi, Reece, Wes — they are crucial players, for us and for any team,” Maresca said. “But we can’t use them in every game. It’s impossible. Otherwise, they could get injured again and be out for months.”
