Leaders Coventry are Held to a Draw by 10-man Preston

0

Leaders Coventry were held to a draw as 10-man Preston fought back to deny them a first-ever win at Deepdale. Coventry took the lead when Jack Rudoni’s shot deflected in off Andrew Hughes, after Preston defender Liam Lindsay had been sent off for pulling down Haji Wright.

But Preston equalised just seven minutes later when Daniel Jebbison connected with a brilliant Pol Valentin cross, earning the home side an important point in their promotion push.

Coventry — the Championship’s top scorers — created plenty of chances, but Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen made several key saves to keep them out. Haji Wright had multiple opportunities, including a close-range header, but couldn’t convert.

Coventry thought they had scored again in the second half, but the flag went up for offside. They continued to push, and Victor Torp was denied by another excellent save.

Preston still threatened on the counter, with Harrison Armstrong forcing a stop from Carl Rushworth. Coventry eventually took the lead again with the deflected Rudoni effort, but Preston refused to give up. Valentin broke down the right and crossed for Jebbison to fire into the roof of the net.

The draw cuts Coventry’s lead at the top to five points, while Preston move up to fourth.
