Greenwood Scores twice to give Marseille a Win in Belgium

0

Mason Greenwood scored two goals to help Marseille earn an important Champions League win in Belgium against Union Saint-Gilloise. The home side took an early lead through Anan Khalaili, but Marseille quickly replied when Igor Paixao fired into the top corner.

Greenwood put Marseille ahead before half-time after combining with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He then scored again early in the second half, running onto a Matt O’Riley pass and finishing calmly.

Union stayed in the game when Khalaili scored his second, and they even thought they had equalised, but Kevin Mac Allister’s goal was ruled offside. In added time, Promise David almost made it 3–3, but his header was saved by Marseille keeper Geronimo Rulli.

The victory moves Marseille up to 16th in the league phase with three wins and three losses. They face Liverpool next before another game in Belgium against Club Brugge. Union drop to 25th and now need strong results against Bayern Munich and Atalanta to stay in the competition.
