Former captain Ryan Brierley has retired from playing and returned to Salford to become the club’s chief executive.
Brierley, who left the club during the 2025 season, ended his playing career at Oldham to take on the CEO role after a consortium led by former Salford player Mason Caton-Brown won the bid to run the phoenix club.
The old Salford Red Devils were wound up in December following a difficult year marked by financial problems and the loss of their Super League status.
Brierley said Salford “is in my heart” and that protecting the club’s rugby league heritage is more important than rivalry. Oldham wished him well as he begins his new role.
Salford will start their 2026 Championship season at home against Oldham, marking their return to competitive rugby league.
