England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of the Ashes tour after his left knee swelled up again. Wood had only just come back from knee surgery and played in the first Test in Perth, but he couldn’t recover in time for the rest of the series. He said he was “gutted” on Instagram and explained that despite treatment, his knee “hasn’t held up.”
Wood will now fly home, and Matthew Fisher has been brought in to replace him. England, already 2-0 down, lose one of their fastest bowlers, putting Wood’s international future in doubt.
Fisher, who has one Test cap and is good with the Kookaburra ball, gets the call ahead of Josh Hull.
Australia also suffer a blow with Josh Hazlewood ruled out of the series, though captain Pat Cummins is set to return for the third Test.
