At the other end of the pitch, mid-table and lower-half clubs produced a mix of relief, resurgence and disappointment — from a comfortable win for Everton to another underwhelming showing for Chelsea.
The title race tightened, the scramble for European places intensified, and the relegation battle remained chaotic.
