Manchester United forward Amad Diallo scored the winning goal as AFCON holders Ivory Coast began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a narrow win over Mozambique in Marrakech.
Ivory Coast missed several chances in the first half, despite dominating play against lower-ranked Mozambique. Goalkeeper Ernan made a number of saves to keep the game level before the break.
Amad finally broke the deadlock just four minutes into the second half, calmly finishing after meeting Franck Kessie’s knockdown. The goal was enough to secure victory for Emerse Fae’s side.
Ivory Coast nearly added a second late on but were denied again by Mozambique’s defence and goalkeeper. The Elephants now prepare for a tougher Group F clash against Cameroon, while Mozambique will face Gabon in their next match.
