Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Algeria cruised to a 3-0 win over 10-man Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group E opener in Rabat.
Mahrez opened the scoring with a trademark left-footed strike set up by Hicham Boudaoui. Sudan’s Salah Adel was sent off for a second yellow card just before half-time, making their task even harder.
Mahrez doubled the lead after 60 minutes with a composed finish from Mohamed Amoura’s through-ball. Algeria wrapped up the win late when Ibrahim Maza converted Baghdad Bounedjah’s knockdown, marking Algeria’s 100th goal in AFCON history.
Algeria tops Group E on goal difference and will stay in Rabat to face Burkina Faso on Sunday, while Sudan heads to Casablanca to play Equatorial Guinea.
