Dessers fires warning as Rangers continue title chase

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers believes Rangers 5-0 win over Hearts in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday was a statement to their rivals in their chase for the title, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian striker scored a double against the Jambos at Ibrox to send Gers five points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Premiership.

Dessers has now scored 16 goals this season and, along with strikes from new boys Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva, put Hearts to the sword in Govan.

According to Daily Record, the 29-year-old, while urging his teammates to stay focused says the victory is a significant win for the league leaders in their quest to win the Premiership title for the first time in three years.

I think today (Saturday) was a big statement. It was a really good team performance. The result was 5-0 but I don’t think Hearts played a bad game, they are a good team.”

You can see we are in a good place just now. But we have to stay humble, keep our heads down and continue to work hard.

“Hopefully we can keep up this form. We are a really good team at this moment but I still think there is quite a bit of growth left and that’s a positive thing.

That is the feeling of everyone in the training ground and that is why we stay hungry. We need to keep working harder because we know there is more to come.”

The Gers have been in superb form in recent weeks. They have won their last nine games in all competitions to build a five-point gap between themselves and close rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
