EPL: Arsenal star in shock move to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle for £30m

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is confident of landing Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney this summer in a deal expected to cost around £30 million.

Tierney has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal and has endured a frustrating season, starting just five league games for Mikel Arteta’s side.

While many believe he is a better left-back than Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mikel Arteta has preferred the services of the Ukrainian.

Tierney, a Scotland international, joined Arsenal for £25m from Scottish champions Celtic in 2019 and made a promising start to his career in north London.

But Zinchenko joined the Gunners from Manchester City last summer to reduce the Scot’s playing time and he is now said to be weighing up his future at the Emirates.

Premier League big spenders Newcastle want the services of the 25-year-old, according to The Sun. The newspaper reports that there is now a feeling at St James’ Park that they will welcome the full-back to the club this summer.

Howe is keen on bolstering his squad following a brilliant season that could see them finish within the top four.

Newcastle have been relying on a natural centre-back Dan Burn at left-back for much of the campaign but Howe is expected to sign a new left-back this summer.
