Ex-Nigerian international, Julius Aghahowa has noted that Lionel Messi took the spot kick with anger when Argentina beat Croatia 3-0 in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday.
He also predicted that the Argentines are close to winning the World Cup for the first time in 36 years when Diego Maradona captained the team to a triumph.
The 35-year-old Messi netted one from the spot and assisted another as the South Americans beat Croatia in the semi-final and are now one match away from finally getting his hands on the World Cup trophy.
And Manchester City’s Alvarez slotted home to double Argentina’s lead before half-time.
“Messi didn’t look back. He played the penalty with anger. He realizes they are close to winning it,” Aghahowa said on Brila FM.
“We don’t know how the final will be but it’s looking good for them,” Aghahowa added.
