Chelsea identify two players to sign as Mount contract talks stall

Chelsea have reportedly identified two players to sign in the near future as talks for a contract extension with their player Mason Mount stall.

According to The Telegraph, the two players are Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino.

Pellegrini and Pino are both on Chelsea’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.

Chelsea have been in talks to extend Mount’s contract, with the England international’s current deal due to expire in June 2024.

The Blues are looking to strengthen their midfield after an inconsistent start to the Premier League season, as they now sit in the eighth position on the log with eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham going into the World Cup break.

However, negotiations are said to have hit a ‘stalemate’ and both Chelsea and Mount are still far from reaching an agreement.

The report added that the west London club are in the market to strengthen manager Graham Potter’s midfield options, with both Pellegrini and Pino on their shortlist.

Pellegrini has been impressive for Roma so far this season and has been linked with a move to Chelsea’s Premier League rival Newcastle United ahead of the January window.

Pino, on the other hand, has struggled for consistency in La Liga this season. He has scored just one goal and registered no assists in 13 league matches so far.
