EPL: Michael Owen names player Klopp will bench against Man City this weekend

Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen has said manager, Jurgen Klopp will drop Luis Diaz for this weekend’s trip to Manchester City.

The Reds play City on Sunday, with only one point separating the two clubs at the top of the Premier League, with eight fixtures left.

Diaz, who arrived at Anfield from Porto in January, has played a key role in Liverpool cutting the gap on Pep Guardiola’s men.

The Colombia international was on target again against Benfica in Tuesday’s Champions League clash, as they won 3-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Diaz played the full 90 minutes, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both withdrawn with one eye on the game against City.

“The way Jurgen Klopp managed his substitutions would suggest maybe not,” Owen told BT Sport when discussing whether Diaz will start.

“Bringing Mohamed Salah off, bringing Sadio Mane off, you would think Jota would have to play – he has been playing very well and he didn’t start today.

“So potentially not. Before the game I thought he would [start against City] but based on that, leaving him on for the full game, I don’t think so,” he added
