EPL: Manchester United under fire for not appointing Premier League winner as manager

Former Liverpool star, Stewart Downing, has thumped Manchester United for not appointing Premier League winner, Antonio Conte, as their while he was available earlier this season.

Downing hit out at Man United for going for whoever’s available rather than for the best candidates.

According to him, Conte would have been the perfect candidate for the Old Trafford job, but the Red Devils missed the trick.

Recall that Man United had the opportunity to appoint Conte last year after the Italian left Inter Milan, but the Premier League giant did not appoint him.

However, Conte eventually joined Tottenham Hotspur.

“I know a lot of people say he was the only man available, but this is Manchester United we’re talking about. Antonio Conte was available at one point. Why didn’t they go and get him? What about Mauricio Pochettino? You’re Manchester United, go and get the best man, not the only man.

“The whole thing just hasn’t been handled very well, I don’t think,” Downing said as quoted by Caught Offside.
