Gary Neville blames one Arsenal Player for Gunners 2-0 defeat to Brentford

Premier League legend, Gary Neville has blamed Arsenal’s Calum Chambers for the club’s defeat to Brentford in the Premier League opening game on Friday.

He blamed Chambers after Sergi Canos’ stunning first-half strike in Brentford’s 2-0 win over Mikel Arteta’s side.

Neville said the defender failed to get tight enough on his opponent.

Newly-promoted Brentford broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, with Canos’ driven effort and Christian Norgaard’s towering header from a long throw-in doubled the hosts advantage in the second half.

Many will inevitably argue that goalkeeper Leno could have done more to prevent the strike but Neville instead blamed Chambers for his lacklustre defending.

“We know Brentford sustain attacks, they press high up the pitch. Calum Chambers doesn’t get tight enough to him,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Canos cuts inside, he does fantastically well, but you really have to get tight.

“Calum Chambers has really got to try and get a bit tighter there and show him onto his left foot.

‘I would ordinarily say that Leno shouldn’t be beaten at his near post but I know how difficult it is,” he added.
