York City have appointed former Crawley Town manager Scott Lindsey as their new head coach, just one day after the shock dismissal of title-winning boss Stuart Maynard.
Maynard guided the Minstermen to the National League title last season, securing promotion back to the Football League after a 10-year absence. However, the club said his departure was due to a "difference in direction and vision for the football club."
Lindsey, 54, previously led Crawley Town to promotion to League One in 2024 during his first spell in charge. His second stint ended in March following a 10-match winless run that left the club hovering just above the League Two relegation zone.
The experienced coach, who has also managed Swindon Town and MK Dons, will take charge of York for the first time against his former club Crawley in the EFL Cup preliminary round on 3 August.
York described Lindsey as a manager with "a vast wealth of experience across the EFL." He will be assisted by João Alves, while Gary Elphick remains with the club as first-team coach.
The Minstermen begin their League Two campaign at home against Bristol Rovers on 15 August, as Lindsey looks to build on the promotion-winning foundation left by Maynard.
