Spain celebrated their FIFA World Cup triumph with hundreds of thousands of jubilant supporters lining the streets of Madrid on Monday as the newly crowned champions embarked on an open-top bus parade.
Head coach Luis de la Fuente and his squad returned to the Spanish capital earlier in the day before paying a courtesy visit to King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia at the Zarzuela Palace.
The team then made its way through Madrid aboard an open-top bus to the iconic Plaza de Cibeles, where thousands of fans had gathered since the morning to secure prime viewing spots for the celebrations.
The parade capped a night of nationwide festivities after Spain defeated Argentina in a dramatic World Cup final in New Jersey. Supporters across the country celebrated into the early hours, with the victory confirmed just minutes before midnight local time.
La Roja secured their triumph with a hard-fought 1-0 victory after extra time, courtesy of Ferran Torres' decisive strike.
Spain's historic achievement also drew congratulations from the leaders of the tournament's three co-host nations—United States President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Moments after the final whistle, Madrid erupted in celebration as thousands of supporters streamed into the streets from bars, restaurants and public squares, waving Spanish flags and proudly wearing the national team's colours in honour of the world champions.
