Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos, will host the 29th edition of the Nigeria Cup, the country’s longest-running Independence Celebration Golf Championship, from September 19 to 27, 2026, with organisers saying preparations are in full swing for what promises to be a landmark edition.
The championship, organised by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association in collaboration with Ikoyi Club 1938, aims to build on nearly three decades of tradition while raising the bar in competition, organisation and stakeholder experience.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Olorogun Mohammed Oyibo, described the 2026 edition as a defining moment in the tournament’s history.
“This edition is born of legacy and built for greatness,” Oyibo said. “We are not simply organising another tournament; we are building on a tradition that has inspired generations of golfers. Our responsibility is to deliver a championship that honours that legacy while setting new benchmarks in competition, organisation and hospitality.”
He added that corporate partners would be investing in more than a golf championship.
“Our partners are aligning their brands with a legacy that celebrates excellence, leadership and national pride. Together, we have the opportunity to create an experience that will endure long after the final putt is made while strengthening one of Nigeria’s most enduring sporting traditions,” he said.
Oyibo said the organising committee was working across key areas, including competition, hospitality, sponsorship, media, branding, logistics and participant services, to ensure a seamless championship worthy of the Nigeria Cup’s prestigious reputation.
He called on corporate organisations, institutions and private individuals to support the event, describing sponsorship as an opportunity to associate with a legacy that extends beyond the golf course.
According to him, sponsors will not only gain brand visibility but also become part of an event that promotes excellence, leadership and national pride while contributing to the continued growth of one of Nigeria’s most enduring sporting traditions.
Oyibo also paid tribute to the sponsors, club members and supporters whose commitment has sustained the Nigeria Cup through nearly three decades, while inviting new partners to join a championship that continues to unite generations through sport, friendship and shared purpose.
To complement the on-course action, organisers announced two signature social events for the 2026 edition a Championship Watch Party and a Sunday evening Legacy Gala designed to extend the celebration beyond the fairways and enhance the overall championship experience.
